Dick and Angel Strawbridge are returning to the spotlight on Channel 4 after their reported row with a show producer.
Well known for inviting viewers into their renovated French chateau on Channel 4's flagship series Escape to the Chateau for nine seasons and various spin-offs since 2015, the telly double act ended up having a parting of ways with Channel 4.
This was due to allegations that they had 'bullied' producers during the shoot, an accusation Dick and Angel disputed highlighting, there are 'two sides to every story'. An alleged leaked audio clip was said to capture Angel during an expletive-laden rant towards a producer.
But it seems this hasn't stopped them coming back to our screens. The couple is due onscreen again with their new program Dick And Angel's Secret France, where they wander off the grid in France, exploring places few tourists trod. It be
The show is all set for broadcast on Channel 4 on Sunday, 2 June at 8pm. "Dick and Angel had filmed this series before the damning recording of Angel was leaked last year," spilt an insider to The Sun.
"Despite severing ties with the Strawbridges, it was always the plan for executives to broadcast the show at a later date. Channel 4 have scaled back on promoting the series and haven't altered their stance on working with Dick and Angel in the future following the completion of their internal review."
A spokesperson for Dick and Angel Strawbridge spoke to The Mirror about the couple's upcoming show on Channel 4, saying: "From my perspective, Dick and Angel are delighted that the show will broadcast on Channel 4 next Sunday, 2nd June, and we have been working alongside the Channel 4 press team."
"Dick and Angel announced last night on social media that the show will be aired, and they have been swamped with positive messages from happy fans. It wouldn't make commercial sense for the Channel to pull back on publicising the series, so it sounds like a rumour."
After their popular series ended in late 2022, the dynamic duo engaged in several other projects. These include managing their personal YouTube channel, writing a book, and embarking on a UK tour.
However, this career pivot came after Channel 4 decided not to work further with the couple due to an independent investigation of their conduct during the show by production company Two Rivers Media.
In a leaked audio, claims were made that Angel hurled an offensive term at one of the producers, allegedly calling them a "f***ed up little c***."
Channel 4 has confirmed that it no longer plans to collaborate with Dick and Angel on future projects, stating: "Following a review we have taken the decision to not work with Dick and Angel on any new productions in the future."
Moreover, Two Rivers Media revealed its decision to sever ties with the couple: "We can confirm that we will no longer work with Dick and Angel and cannot comment further at the moment."
Dick and Angel responded by saying they had already chosen to end their collaboration with Channel 4 last December. "We know there are lots of stories in the press right now. It's not worth us even trying to comment or give context, because anything can be made into a good headline. We understand. There are two sides to every story and from the incredible support we have received, most of you know that.
Appearing on ITV's Lorraine last year, the couple addressed these claims, with Dick saying: "It's interesting because we were on Lorraine before Christmas [2022], explaining the end of the nine series. As a family, we made a decision that last year was going to be the finale of Escape to the Chateau so we finished. With that, we told everybody at the beginning of the year. That's now nearly two years ago now, everyone's known it was finishing."
"So when the stories sort of came and people started talking about the end of what we were doing, it wasn't news, it was something that had happened a long time in the past. We made the decision just not to get involved in any of the conversations."
Dick and Angel's Secret France will air on Channel 4 on Sunday, 2 June at 8pm
